Frequently Asked Questions

An AMHSW is a social worker with advanced training and experience in mental health. We're recognised by Medicare to provide psychological therapy.
Like psychologists, we use evidence-based approaches to support people with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and other mental health concerns.
What sets us apart is our holistic and relational lens- understanding mental health in the context of family, community and environment.

I work with children (typically 8+), adolescents, and parents. Adolescents are my area of expertise — I’m experienced and skilled in supporting them through this challenging developmental stage. I work with young people experiencing self-harm or suicidal thoughts where these can be safely managed in an outpatient setting. If a higher level of care is needed, I can help guide families toward the right support.
For children under 8, I offer parent-only sessions to support their wellbeing through the caregiving relationship. I also work with mothers, with a growing focus on maternal mental health—especially during the early years of parenting.

I work closely with parents and carers early in the process to build a shared understanding and strengthen the support around the young person. While adolescents are typically seen individually, parent involvement remains important through regular check-ins. As a key part of my approach, I offer attachment-based family therapy when it can help strengthen relationships and support shared goals.I draw on evidence-based and relational approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Attachment-Based Family Therapy, and strengths-based practice. My approach is tailored to support emotional regulation, relationship dynamics, and meaningful, lasting change. Sessions are practical, supportive, and grounded in what works.

It’s normal for young people to feel unsure at first. I encourage them to attend and engage at their own pace — meaningful participation often builds over time. To claim a Medicare rebate, the child or teen must be present for most of the session, even if they choose not to speak.

Call or email [email protected] to arrange an initial intake call (15 minute free consultation). This call is to explore your needs and see if we’re a good fit. If you proceed, I'll email you intake forms to complete. I suggest you obtain the Mental Health Treatment Plan (if using Medicare) before completing the forms.
